The Proverbs 31 Power Couple

Updated: Dec 22, 2022

Proverbs 31 does not simply describe a "Righteous Woman". In fact, the description discusses such a woman is set apart amongst the Righteous as "Exceptional". However not only does the passage discuss an Exceptional Wife, but also the kind of man she supports and equips her husband to be as well. In essence, the chapter describes a "power couple" of Noble Leadership in their communities.

The Hebrew word used to describe their character is "chayal" meaning "capable, powerful, exceptional, warrior, affluent, strong, valiant, virtuous, and/or noble".

While it is true not every couple seeking the Father is elevated to such a role in society, as that "Set Apart Chosen Royal Priesthood of Righteousness", the Remnant of Yasharal is called to be of Noble Character and embody these qualities. Then there is no wonder why so many of the Remnant in our generation seek to "return to the old ways" and innately feel called to this lifestyle as they come into more Truth. While many men and women struggle alone in their marriage in returning to these practices, Proverbs 31 shows us the Father's desire is for both spouses to do their best to encourage and support eachother in these endeavors and what a beautiful life and marriage can be built when they do.

The chapter opens with the Queen Mother of "Lamual" (nickname for her son King Shalamah meaning "Belonging to Alahym") stating the facts she is about to share are spoken by Yahuah Himself:

Characteristics of Noble Men: 1. They don't waste their time, energy and fortunes chasing women (as opposed to being content settling down and building a life with a righteous wife). 2. They don't live destructively or depressed dwelling on past regrets and loss (instead they maintain well-balanced lives and learn from the past moving forward with hope of a better future) 3. They accept wise counsel and drink in moderation (if they drink at all) 4. They guard themselves against intoxication and remain sober-minded so they do not make emotional decisions or unwise misjudgments hurting those they are appointed over 5. They understand intoxication is made for the depressed and sickly to alleviate their pain and forget their sorrow (not for simple pleasure and entertainment) 6. They give counsel and lead by the Wisdom of the Scriptures 5. They use their influence and roles to advocate for the oppressed and needy (as opposed to taking advantage of them) 6. They are confident and courageous, speaking out for just causes by righteous discernment

Characteristics of Noble Wives: 1. A “Capable Wife” is very rare and more valuable than fine jewels 2. Her husband trusts in her because he knows she is fully capable to handle the affairs and ensures all his needs are met 3. She dedicates her life to serving her husband well and prioritizes making him successful 4. She creates handmade products from wool, flax (and linen) 5. She is a wise business leader and ensures her work produces a lucrative income 6. She wakes up before sunrise to prepare meals for her family, to plan her day and decide the daily tasks for her employees 7. She uses her savings to purchase land and builds a farm and plants, sows, harvests, stores and sells the surplus 8. She works out regularly to have the strength to work the land and produce goods 9. She knows from experience hard work is worthwhile and she isn't afraid to work overtime 10. She completes necessary work on-time and makes her own yarn (for crocheting and knitting) 11. She shares her extra food and clothing with the needy 12. Her husband trusts his family is safe while he is out of town because he knows she prepares warm clothes for their family 13. She makes her husband professional dress clothes to wear to his business and council meetings 14. She makes beautiful scarlet linen clothes for herself 15. She designs and creates clothes and accessories to sell 16. She chooses her words carefully and speaks with grace and tact; she controls her tongue 17. She is known for her strength and majesty and rejoices in her labor by looking forward to one day reaping the benefits 18. She is full of Wisdom and advises according to the Turah 19. She ensures her family’s activities and habits are healthy and productive 20. Her wise counsel, love and support leads her children into wealth and prosperity and her husband praises her 21. Although many honorable women do well for themselves, the Noble Wife surpasses their efforts 22. Charm is false and beauty is vain, but Wise Women are blessed 23. She respects and praises those who have Fear of Yahuah (as opposed to exceptional charm and beauty) 24. She should be afforded the freedom to enjoy the fruit of her labor and her husband is honored for her prestige

How powerful to envision such a marriage thriving and influencing their family and community!

There then is revealed the deeper meaning of Proverbs 12:4, "An Excellent Wife is the Crown of her husband". This Noble Wife empowers her husband to fulfill his anointing as she commits to supporting and equipping him to succeed in Righteousness.
